Gwenfô School
Gwenfô Church in Wales Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 11. The school is situated in the village of Wenvoe on the periphery of the Vale of Glamorgan and approximately six miles from the centre of Cardiff and five miles from the centre of Barry.

The original school dates from 1861, but a new building was erected in two phases during the 1970’s. The single storey building is a prefabricated timber framed structure. The roof and exterior of the building have recently been refurbished; the single glazed sliding aluminium windows have been replaced with double-glazed UPVC windows and the plywood panels with coloured steel panels.

Outside there is a two class demountable building and a single classroom unit.

The school is protected by a security system and doors can only be accessed by keys, tag readers or buzzers.

We are fortunate to have a large hall which is used for Daily Worship, P.E., Drama, Music and Welsh Folk Dancing. It also serves as a dining room with service from the adjoining kitchens.

The school has a large playing field, adequate hard playing areas and an attractive garden.

The school is supported by an active PTA committee.

Year 4 have just had a very interesting trip to Plantasia in Swansea. They attended workshops on Rainforests and Art. Children saw snakes, frogs, lizards and array of unusual plants.“It was amazing, there was a python which was 14 foot which could squeeze you to death and swallow you, poisonous frogs, scorpions, a massive tortoise, it was awesome”. Cameron Gauci

“There was a poisonous plant and if you touched it, it would paralyse you. I sketched a monkey and a cactus. It was really interesting and fun”. Megan Smith

During the weekend of 15/16 May our Reception Play House was broken into and damaged. If anyone saw anything suspicious or anyone trespassing on the grounds, please let PCSO Angela Stone or school know.

Year 6 went to ’Crucial Crew’ recently. This is organised by South Wales Police, the children attend a half day session on keeping themselves safe on roads, railways, building sites, power stations, awareness of drugs, alcohol, cyber bullying, first aid fire safety, and how to care for pets. What an informative morning they had! We played at a tag rugby tournament at Wick and Marcross School. Well done the rugby team
