Gwenfô School
Gwenfô Church in Wales Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 11. The school is situated in the village of Wenvoe on the periphery of the Vale of Glamorgan and approximately six miles from the centre of Cardiff and five miles from the centre of Barry.

The original school dates from 1861, but a new building was erected in two phases during the 1970’s. The single storey building is a prefabricated timber framed structure. The roof and exterior of the building have recently been refurbished; the single glazed sliding aluminium windows have been replaced with double-glazed UPVC windows and the plywood panels with coloured steel panels.

Outside there is a two class demountable building and a single classroom unit.

The school is protected by a security system and doors can only be accessed by keys, tag readers or buzzers.

We are fortunate to have a large hall which is used for Daily Worship, P.E., Drama, Music and Welsh Folk Dancing. It also serves as a dining room with service from the adjoining kitchens.

The school has a large playing field, adequate hard playing areas and an attractive garden.

The school is supported by an active PTA committee.

GWENFO SCHOOL NEWS

We were treated to a musical extravaganza last Tuesday, when all the children learning instruments had a chance to play to their parents and members of  the Leisure Group. Drums, violins, piano, guitars, recorders and beautiful voices were heard. Children and guests had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to Lindsay Hammer from CAVMS for all her hard work.

Year 6 have just been on the venture week to Atlantic College, St Donats accompanied by Mr Probert and Miss Pratt. They tried mountain boarding, climbing, canoeing and lots more. A memorable time was had by all! Year 5 will be going for their 2-night adventure on 7th July.

Thank you to Colorfoto, Cardiff who organised a morning’s trip for Year 6 to visit their studio. The children were able to see how the photographs are  produced and will have a framed class photo each to remember their time at Gwenfo. Our Sports Day and Summer Fayre takes place on  Friday 2nd July, commencing at 1pm with the Summer Fayre following on after sports day. Members of the community are very welcome to join us for the afternoon.

We wish all our Year 6 leavers the all the very best as they step up to their secondary education. We will  miss you all. School term ends 16th July and we are back on Tuesday 7th September. Have a super summer, let’s hope the sun continues to shine.
